Rick Ladwig is an integral part of our leadership team. As the chair of Trustees he is responsible for the physical assets of the church. Because we own land and are working toward a worship, fellowship, outreach and Sunday school complex of our own, the building committee reports to the Trustees. Also, projects that the building committee undertake are reviewed and approved by the Trustees and the Church Council.
Rick is also responsible for the ushers, the acolytes and the setup/take down crew. The ushers are present for the safety and the organization of the congregation during the worship service. The ushers help direct worshipers to available seating, handle requests for special arrangements for walkers, wheelchair or other assist devices. The Ushers provide hearing assist equipment to those who wish additional hearing help. The ushers assist during the offering and communion to facility the response of the congregation.
Acolytes are key in importance to our worship service as it is the acolyte that brings the light of God into our worship service to prepare us for the presence of God. Our acolytes are volunteers, usually grade 3-12 in age who are trained to hold a key role in our worship ceremony. The acolytes receive training and lead the processional to the altar and then the recessional from the altar, taking the light of God away from the altar until it is time to worship again.
The Set Up and Take Down Crews are a group of church members, affiliates, family members and friends that sign up to take turns changing the Elaine K. Smith Center into a worship Sanctuary for use during BC UMC worship service and then change it back once the service is finished. A large number of men, women and children rotate through this area of service over the years. It is a rewarding experience as the fellowship among the workers allows close friendships to be made.
