Mission-Focused Volunteer Opportunities

Painting Over GraffitiWe are an active congregation, serving in a variety of local and national organizations. We invite you to investigate the links below and see where you might like to participate being the hands and feet of Christ in our community and beyond.

Relay For Life

Relay for Life

Each year we compile a team to enter the Cancer fundraising effort known as Relay for Life.  It is held at the BC High School, requires a team leader and as many participants as possible.  We choose a theme, set a funding goal and solicit donations, then have a good time at the overnight event, walking the track with all the other participants.  This spring our team raised the most amount of funds than any other team!  For more information about joining the BCUMF team contact our team leader.   Visit Website >>

Nevadans For The Common Good

Nevadans for the Common Good (NCG)

BCUMF is a member of NCG, a non-profit, non-partisan organization formed in 2012 whose membership is approximately 40 faith-based institutions and social service non-profits.  NCG’s mission is to educate and train citizens for participation in public life and to build relational power for collective action in the pursuit of justice and the common good in solidarity with others across lines of race, class, and religion.  Key concerns for NCG are issues related to the elderly, education, and immigration.  NCG is currently focusing on potential privitization of Nevada’s Medicaid services for  the blind, aged, and disabled and the shortage of teachers/licensed staff in the Clark County School District.  For more information on NCG and these actions, please contact Barbara Paulsen.  Visit Website >>

Hats And Hands

Hats and Hands

Hats and Hands, a program coordinated by the United Methodist churches in the Las Vegas Valley, distributes hats, scarves, socks and gloves to the homeless throughout the Las Vegas Valley.  Most of the items are handmade by individuals and groups throughout the community in an effort to prevent illness and injury caused by exposure to the cold during the winter months.  Contact Ida Hansen to participate.  Visit Website >>

Open Doors Community Service

United Methodist Social Ministries (UMSM)

For 30 years UMSM has served the Las Vegas Valley community through its food pantry, its Fostering in Faith program, and other outreach activities.   BCUMF has supported UMSM in its activities and for over 5 years has provided pantry volunteers one Sunday each month. Through this 30-year time span there has been vast change and growth in the Las Vegas Valley and a significant expansion of social services and food pantries.  It is time for UMSM to evaluate all its programs and set a direction for the future.  As of March 1, 2016, UMSM is ceasing all programming and is entering into a one-year visioning process.  If any member of BCUMF would like to participate in the visioning process, contact the North District Leadership Team.   Visit Website >>
