Council Chair
The Church Council is the primary administrative body for the Church. The Council is charged with envisioning, planning, implementing and evaluating the mission and ministry of the Church. The Council includes the council chair, council vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, Board of Trustees chair, Staff Parish Relations Committee chair, and chair persons of other designated committees. This position is currently being filled by: Jennifer Haag.
Assistant Council Chair

Lay Leader
The Lay Leader works closely with the pastor and represents the pastor when the pastor is unavailable. Lay leaders make announcements at the beginning of the church service, assist the pastor with planning programs and ministering to the needs of the congregation. They attend and participate in SPRC, Church Council, Care Ministry, Trustees, and Finance. The Lay Leaders are really the pastor’s right and left arms. The position of Lay Leader is currently being filled by: Kathleen Wood.
Assistant Lay Leaders
The Assistant Lay Leaders assist in duties for the current Lay Leader and fills in when needed. Lay leaders make announcements at the beginning of the church service, assist the pastor with planning programs and ministering to the needs of the congregation. The Lay Leader and Assistant are really the pastor’s right and left arms. These positions are currently being filled by: Linda Robertshaw.
Nominations Chair
The nominations group meets with church folks and helps to connect them with the ministries and opportunities we have in the local church that match their God-given talents and gifts. This committee presents a list of officers and volunteers each year at Charge Conference (Annual Meeting) that will serve in the coming year. They work year around to provide the necessary manpower for the ministries for which we are called. This position is currently being filled by: Rev. Sandy Johnson.
Events Team
The events team organizes and produces the various events the church presents each year including the Spring Jamboree, Damboree, Luminaria, and/or the Electric Light Parade. No previous experience is necessary. There are many jobs to be done to make these activities a success and everyone is welcome to help. This position is currently being filled by: Rev. Sandy Johnson.
Care Ministry Team
Our care ministers are a small group of members who helps all of our church family to stay connected and provide assistance when necessary. Each person is assigned a care minister who will be there should the need arise for support, prayer or visitation. Care ministers are the first responders to situations that arise and are in communication with our pastor, keeping her apprised of any congregational situation. This position is currently being filled by: Rev. Sandy Johnson.
Communications Chair
This position includes assisting the pastor with the design production of advertisements in local publications, as well as posters, cards and other advertisement media. The Communications Chair also updates and maintains our church’s website. This position is currently being filled by: Krishun Stanton & Myra Davis.
Staff Parish Relations Chair
The Staff Parish Relations committee leads the congregation to encourage, strengthen, nurture, support, and respect the pastor(s) and staff and their families. It helps the staff set priorities that strengthen the congregation’s total ministry. The committee consults with the lead pastor to recommend staff positions to support the strategy of the church leadership team (church council). The committee recommends staff compensation, travel, housing, and other financial matters to the church council through consultation with the finance committee. The finance committee includes the salary total in the budget, and the SPRC works with staff on allocation. The committee provides for annual evaluation of the pastor(s) and other staff for ongoing effective ministry. The committee creates and updates written policy for hiring, evaluating, promoting, retiring, and dismissing staff members who are not subject to episcopal appointment. (Procedures must comply with local and state laws). This is recommended to the church council for adoption. The committee conducts proper screening (including background checks) for lay employees and volunteer staff. The chairperson is the congregation’s primary connection with the district superintendent and bishop related to appointed leadership of the congregation. The committee meets with the district superintendent and/or the bishop in an advisory capacity related to clergy leadership. Considerations include the age and stage of the congregation, an understanding of feelings and desires within the congregation about the pastor’s leadership and appointment, and the culture and needs of the community around the church. The committee enlists, evaluates, and annually recommends to the Charge Conference candidates for professional ministry. This position is currently being filled by: Barbara Paulsen.
Liturgist Coordinator
Plans liturgist (need explanation) schedule for one year starting in January; assists with changes to schedule as needed. This position is currently being filled by: Linda Robertshaw.
Finance Secretary
As Finance Secretary, my specific duty is to count and post the monies from the collection plate each Sunday and make the bank deposit. Additionally, I familiarize myself with QuikBooks and have a general knowledge of our accounting procedures as a back-up for the Treasurer. I am also one of 3 people who make decisions on disbursements from the Benevolent Fund. The Treasurer and I stay in touch with overall policies on church spending and direction and relay thoughts to the Church Council. This position is currently being filled by: Ida Hansen.
Corporate Secretary
The duties of the Corporate Secretary are to certify and hold or direct to be held: Corporate Bylaws; a book of minutes of all meetings of the Church Council and to see that all notices are given in accordance with the provisions of the Bylaws or as required by law; be custodian or direct maintenance of all official records of BCUMC; maintain a book containing the name, address, and telephone numbers of each member of the Church. The Corporate Secretary will, in general, perform all duties incident to the office of Secretary and such other duties as may be required by law, the Articles of Incorporation, or by these Bylaws, or which may be assigned from time to time by the Church Council.
