Jane Sharp is a lifelong Methodist. Raised in Eastern Oregon, she is a double graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics (1970) and a Master’s in Education (1985). Jane was privileged to be a homemaker until her children were in school. She was a volunteer with Girl Scouts, USA, and with softball and Little League organizations. In 1983 she began her career as a high school teacher in schools along the Mexican border in eastern California. She was a lead instructor in the AVID program, teaching immigrant students and their parents how to navigate the US education system and send those students to college. She became involved with foreign student exchange, working with students going abroad as well as entering US schools.
Jane retired in June of 2010 and moved to Boulder City to be near family and was welcomed warmly by the BCUMF family. She has served as church secretary and leader of the BUNCO group. Maintaining her interests in education and cultural understanding., she serves as the chair of three Elks committees which conduct student scholarship contests and an essay contest. She also serves as the Americanism chair for the Lodge, welcoming new citizens at their naturalization ceremonies.
