How We Began
In late 1999 a group of people in Boulder City came together to worship in the United Methodist tradition. Led by Lay Speaker John Mondt, we first met in the (very clean and warm) garage of a member of our fellowship. Soon after, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church offered their church as a place for us to hold our worship services. We will always be grateful for St. Christopher’s compassion and generosity in giving us our first home.
With the sanction of the Desert Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church and the support of (then) North District Superintendent Rev. Tom Mattick, our first pastor was appointed. For one year, through his spiritual and practical direction, Rev. Jerry Blankinship guided our fledgling congregation towards a fully active United Methodist Fellowship.
In 2001 Rev. Arthur Robinson was appointed as pastor, and the congregation moved their place of worship to the Lighthouse Inn Conference Center on Ville Drive. We continued to hold our services there until December 2006.
Local Pastor John Ritenour joined our congregation part time, July 1, 2004. Pastor John and his wife Kitty provided our church community with a spiritual and practical leadership that enabled us to grow into a viable mainstream Christian church in Boulder City, giving back to the community that has so generously supported us.
By the middle of 2006, we were fast outgrowing the Lighthouse location. A search of available settings brought us to the Senior Center of Boulder City, and on January 7, 2007 we held our first service there. The more central location and larger facility has been a blessing for our church community, letting us expand our Christian Education program and increase our worship and fellowship areas as we continue to grow. Pastor John retired in June 2012 and we welcomed Reverend Sandy Johnson.
On February 28, 2016 we were chartered as a United Methodist Church at a service held at St. Jude’s Chapel. Bishop Bob Hoshibata, Rev. David MacPherson and Rev. Dan Morley were our special guests.
Sandy and her husband JJ have lived in Las Vegas since 1987 and have three children, Calvin (28), Claire (26), and Cami (15). She is a graduate of Iliff School of Theology with a Masters of Divinity. Sandy is serving in her first appointment and has brought a new enthusiasm to our fellowship and a strong desire to grow and expand our ministries.
Where We Are Going
We are focusing on sharing God’s love with our neighbors in Boulder City and are involved in local missions and outreach and strive to balance our own spiritual growth with being servant leaders in the community. We own property at the corner of Adams Blvd and Utah Street and have plans to build a permanent worship center in the future. We are looking for people to travel this journey with us and who will join in our ministry to share God’s love with everyone we meet.
